The Pensions Council

The Pensions Council (An Chomhairle Pinsean) was set up to advise the Minister for Social Protection on matters relating to policy on pensions. The Council is to represent and protect the consumer interest and help to ensure that the system has a far stronger consumer focus.

At the inaugural meeting of the Council in March 2015 the Tánaiste asked the Council to give special attention to charges and to gender issues.

The Council was established under section 26B of the Pensions Act, 1990.
